The Fantastic Cinema of Ishiro Honda Book

The CSToys Blog was just contacted by the author of a new book, titled "Mushroom Clouds and Mushroom Men: The Fantastic Cinema of Ishiro Honda". It hits the shelves for the first time in America and tells the story of the Japanese revolutionary director, Ishiro Honda. The book details his life and inspirations bringing you an inside look at this pioneer. For those not familiar with Ishiro Honda, this forefront director took on the task of directing Japanese classics such as Rodan, Mothra, Attack of the Mushroom People and the utterly famous Godzilla.  He essentially is one of the fathers who developed today's tokusatsu.
I suppose our increased amount of Godzilla articles is making us more recognized. So thank you Mr. Yellow and Wheelchair21 for your contributions. Thanks also goes to the author, Peter H. Brothers, for giving us this tip off and for writing a fantastic new book for us here in North America. For Godzilla, Mothra and Ishiro Honda fans out there this is a must read. Bookstore link below, it is also available on amazon.com.

New DVD Spotlights with Wheelz

So the other night I re-started DVD Spotlight reviews and ironically KO brought up the Kaiju I was reviewing; King Kong, so because that was brought up in the chat I just felt like sharing my review on the King Kong movies. These King Kong movies are Toho's King Kong vs Godzilla and King Kong Escapes. Along with that review I just uploaded today Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, another one of Toho's classics. This movie consisted of Toho's finest Kaiju at the time; Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra with the newest monster at the time Ghidorah! Within the upcoming week I plan to review more Godzilla movies along with many of the DBZ movies, some of which are my favorite DBZ movies ever made!

To start off this new installment of DVD Spotlight, I choose to do a King Kong Double Feature. This double feature is Toho's only movies to feature the eighth wonder of the world, legally! Both of these movies are practically made for just entertainment values. In the first film it was America vs Japan, Icon vs Icon and the second movie was Kong vs MechaKong! Both movies have good points and really bad points to them. I don't hate them, because these two movies were apart of my childhood and was the start of my fanhood for Godzilla.

From the Toho Master Collection it's Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster! This installment in the Godzilla saga brought together Toho's Top Monsters for the first time. Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra, but they weren't alone they were joined by Ghidorah! Ghidorah the space monster would then follow to be one of Toho's most reoccuring villainous monster to appear in the Godzilla Saga. The movie has many of Eiji's best use of special effects, because of that it's one of my current most played DVDs!

Some DVD Spotlights with Wheelz!

Hey guys Wheelz here and just coming on to mention the new DVD Spotlight Reviews I post to youtube. Most of these new DVD Spotlights are on Kaiju-eiga, Tokusatsu and Anime. The most recent uploads I've done were on Ultraman and several Godzilla movies! I plan to atleast upload a new DVD spotlight per day until I run out of movies to review then take some possible requests. Down below I got some of my most recent DVD Spotlights along with their youtube description, I hope you all enjoy them!

The Toho Master Collection Set of Rodan and War of the Gargantuas. These two movies show off some of Eiji Tsuburaya's greatest special effects. These were also some of Eiji's favorite movies to work on and are some of my favorite non-Godzilla films too. In my opinion the special effects are the reason why I enjoy these movies. The 1956 "Rodan" debuts the kaiju Rodan, but there isn't just one there's two! Japan must try to outwit the flying kaiju the best they can before the Radons mate. Then in the 1966 "War of the Gargantuas", an in-direct sequel to "Frankenstien Conqurers the World", Japan is yet again terrorized by two kaiju. Gaila and Sanda, two bigfoot like creatures bent on killing one another. The special feature comes on the Rodan disc and it's a documentary; "Bringing Godzilla Down to Size." The documentary practically tells you the background in how Eiji Tsuburaya made these films.

As Godzilla's showa era came to a close, Godzilla had go against MechaGodzilla! MechaGodzilla was another Kaiju to come close to killing the King. After their 1st two battles Godzilla destroyed MechaG, but he soon returned that following year. A newer model Mechagodzilla returned to have its revenge this time to be joined by Titanosaurus. Godzilla was out-matched but defeated the two on his own! These last two enstallments in the Showa Era are two to be in a fan's top 10! With these leading to Godzilla's first hiatus, fans were pleased to see this end.

The King of the Monsters, Arrives!

For over Fifty-years he has ruled over every monster known to man. His movies are the original standards for Tokusatsu as we know it. Created by Eiji Tsuburaya, and owned by Toho he is Japan's largest icon; he is Gojira. Known throughout the world as Godzilla, he has stared in over two dozen films, fought several monsters and captured the eyes of millions of fans. Born in 1954 due to H-Bomb testings, he has terrorized Japan and has also been its Hero. In later years he was joined by the likes of Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah and MechaGodzilla. Now in retirement Godzilla awaits his rebirth in the US! Legendary Pictures and Toho have come together to make a new Godzilla movie. Not much is known yet other than some rumors floating around the net, so far its planned to hit theatres somewhere in 2012!

Below is the trailer to Godzilla: Final Wars, the 50th anniversary film!

Upcoming Episodes of Doyle's Discussions

Next week's episodes of Doyle's Discussions are action packed! The next week I've planned to hold a two night look back at the MMPR seasons 1-3, along with highlights of JDF's life as a Ranger. Also planned is comparing the difference between MMPR and its Sentai Counterparts. To close out the two-parter, is an intro to the life and history of the King of the Monsters, Godzilla! The King of the Monsters must become apparent to the CS Toys Members, because he started it all. Yeah, Godzilla is also the king of Tokusatsu!

Oh and one last thing! That coming Saturday is my graduation party, I wish I could have invited you all to join me. Even though we all can't meet person to person, I'll try to hold a show during the party, from 1pm to 4pm. Or if not, we'll celebrate it later that night, during the planned episode of course! Also at the party I'll have interviews with family, friends and teachers about how long they've known me and supported me. If I don't get the live stream going at the party you can see all the interviews on my YouTube channel!
